Texas House Approves of Expanding Medical Marijuana Program

You know that you can always count on Texas Marijuana Card to give you the lowdown on medical marijuana news in Texas and how you can get a medical card in the state. So we have some big news for you!

Yesterday, the Texas House approved of HB 1535 which looks to expand upon the state’s very limited program. This bill would include chronic pain, cancer and PTSD patients! It would raise the THC limit from 0.5% to 5%and it would give power to the Department of State Health Services to add qualifying conditions to the list in the future instead of it having to go through lawmakers into new state law.

Although Texas has had a medical marijuana program since 2015, it is still extremely limited when compared to other state’s medical marijuana programs. It has often been referred to as a medical “CBD” program instead since the cap on THC was so low. Even if HB 1535 passes, a 5% cap on THC is still pretty low but it would still offer potential patients a lot of benefits that they are not getting with the 0.5% THC limit.

There are definitely kinks that need to be worked out in the Texas marijuana program but the passage of this bill in the House is a step in the right direction!
